The second 2014 Downtown Gloucester Block Party will be held Saturday August 16 at 6 pm on Gloucester's Main Street. The Dr. Bones Circus of Marvels, a collection of sideshow performers and a wide range of musical acts play experimental, rock, rhythm and blues, originals, oldies, eclectic, gypsy jazz and bluegrass on five Block Party stages. Audiences will enjoy skilled guitar, mandolin and banjo players and singing groups known for their exquisite harmonies. These include Old Cold Tater, Livin' on Luck, The Sugar Tones, Joe Wilkins Noise, Gyro Lula, Riley and Victoria, The Tree House Charlatans with their didgeridoo, Cape Ann's prodigy Alek Razden and Not That Blonde. The Cape Ann Center for Dance performs at 7 pm and the Dog Bar stage features the rocking Joe Mack Band and barbecue from Pit Master Smokin' Jim.
There'll be lots of activities in Kids' Town. Mary Poppins herself appears in front of Kids Unlimited at 6 pm. She'll speak with and make balloon umbrellas for her audience. The very popular Vernal Pond Team reptile exhibit will be in front of Toodleoos. Kids' Town games run by the YMCA's Camp Spindrift features giant chess, chalk drawing, hula hoops and face painting to keep youngsters amused. Vendors are close by for snacks.
